Professional Internship Program

The Professional Internship Program offers candidates an opportunity to gain professional work experience and improve career opportunities in almost all academic fields and a wide range of industries. It is aimed at candidates seeking work experience / internship positions in Australia. An internship is a great way to gain exposure into the professional work environment and develop professional workplace skills. All placements are non-paid training positions and they are available in all major cities of Australia. Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Professional Internship Program candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Aged 18-30
  • The internship field requested is directly related to your educational background
  • Currently enrolled in a tertiary course, or
  • A recent graduate within 24 months of course completion
  • Upper intermediate - advanced English language skills

Start Dates

  • Interns have the flexibility of choosing their preferred start dates (allow for 3-4 month lead time)

Lead Time

  • 4 months for 416 Special Program Visa candidates
  • 3 months for candidates with proof of suitable working visas (e.g. Working Holiday Visa)

Hospitality Internship Program

The Hospitality Program is a paid internship program offered to highly skilled candidates that are completing or have completed hospitality studies and have relevant hospitality experience. There are 6, 9 & 12 months options. Positions are available in Food and Beverage, Front Office and Cookery.

Valuable Information on Hospitality Program:

  • Internship applications must be lodged a minimum of six (6) months prior to internship commencement or arrival in Australia and 5 months prior for candidates with a suitable working visa.
  • All candidates must complete a telephone interview before being accepted into the internship program.
  • Candidates must be willing to complete their internship in a hotel, resort or restaurant in any of the major tourist centres throughout Australia.
  • The first week in the workplace for all interns will be focused on training and induction.
  • Interns will be required to cover the cost of their travel and accommodation.

Internship Payment for Hospitality Candidates:

Internships are arranged on a full time basis with interns completing a minimum of 30 hours per week. The average hourly rate for interns is AU$15-$20. This wage may vary depending on the Host Organisation and internship hours.

Eligibility

  • Be between the age of 18 - 30
  • Minimum of 2 years tertiary education in hospitality (not required for Working Holiday Visa Holders)
  • Minimum 6 months full time professional experience in the selected internship department
  • Be currently enrolled in a tertiary course, or
  • Be a recent graduate within 24 months of course completion
  • Upper intermediate - advanced English language skills
  • Strong knowledge of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a variety of departments
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in rural and remote locations

Candidates that want to participate in the Hospitality Internship Program for Academic Credit as part of their studies need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be between the age of 18 - 30
  • Be currently enrolled in a tertiary course
  • Provide proof of academic requirements for internship program
  • Minimum of 1 year tertiary education in hospitality
  • Minimum 6 months full time experience with leading hotel chain
  • High communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of the hospitality industry both domestically and internationally
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in a variety of departments
  • Flexibility and willingness to work in rural and remote locations

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA):

All interns who opt for the Hospitality Internship Program must present a copy of their Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate or complete the online RSA course, prior to commencing their internship in Australia.
